Superimposing on Amazon Review #68

As many of you know, every now and then I do pop into Amazon to see where my books are currently standing in Rank & Reviews as I like to grasp a more in depth insight of what Readers/Reviewers thought about the book they just read.

For this instance, I read the recent review posted on JANE..  And though the Reviewer did give it a wonderful Star Rating, the Reviewer went on to express some key issues that had them scratching their head.

So to not go into too much detail, I did leave a Comment but it was merely to superimpose what will be included in HUSH:  Interlude.

And even though I did stress what is to be included in HUSH:  Interlude through a previous post, I might have failed to include some of those issues with the Reviewers Review.

Below is the Review with my Comment to follow:

on February 2, 2017
Who cares about the random spelling and grammar issues. It just adds to the raw feeling of the series. Speaking of which, I feel like it wasn’t meant to be a series so the ending doesn’t match up. Dominic, Justin and Josh went far and beyond “being tough” on Jane out of their sense of duty to the organization. The first book made that abundantly clear, so it makes the ending tough to swallow. IF they raped and beat her the first night they went to the frat party to “break her in” then MAYBE I can see her forgiving them because they are just products of their environment following orders from above. However the countless abuse inflicted on her at their hands when NO ONE was ordering them to, makes it tough for me. I can’t help but wonder if making this story a series was an afterthought, as the author could have made it far more palatable if those 3 were just a little bit less savage to Jane! Turning her out and slapping her around is difficult enough to imagine forgiveness for, but given the level of trauma they themselves endured as kids I could’ve bought it. However those 3 were soulless bastards, that enjoyed torturing Jane without having to, and that doesn’t simply just change! Still love the series, love the happy ending, Jane deserves it. Im still just conflicted a bit though and wish there was more humanity to them in book 1 OR somehow it was at least explained away better in the last book. Also why didn’t Dominic kill Mr. Parker when he had the chance? Why only shoot him in the hand? That drove me a bit nuts too…ok rant over…I highly recommend the series although I have spoiled the crap out of it with this review!

Thank You for your wonderful review!
And just a heads up … all that you’ve expressed
will be detailed in HUSH: Interlude (a novella companion to the HUSH & DiamonD Series)
which will explain much that wasn’t included in the books.

HUSH: the Amazon “Good News/Bad News”

The “GOOD NEWS” is the [newly] updated version of HUSH is now available.

The “BAD NEWS” is it’s only available if you’ve previously purchased HUSH using your Amazon Account.

The updated version of HUSH will be publicly available anywhere from 48 hours to one week.  So I have my fingers crossed that it will be sooner!

To obtain HUSH’s updated version, log into your Amazon Account and head to your “Manage Your Kindle,” or “Manage Your Content and Devices,” then scroll to HUSH and hit the “Update Available” notification button just off to the right.  This will automatically update HUSH.

Just a quick note:  This updated version of HUSH is the original version of HUSH since I had no interest [in the past] of furthering HUSH as it was meant to be a “stand alone book”.  Now that I’ve ventured HUSH into a three-part saga, some of the previous content has either been removed, altered, or shortened.

Hope you enjoy this updated version of HUSH.

Sincerely, Devlin De La Chapa

Indie novel HUSH is a #1 Amazon Best Seller

The last time I posted anything on HUSH was back in November of 2013.  After looking back – actually looking down behind this post – I expressed some issues regarding ratings and reviews.

Fast forward. . .

So far I have been accused of being ~

a pedophile

a rapist

a sex offender

a sexually abused survivor

a person with a “sick imagination”

While I would genuinely love to state that I AM exactly all of the above I am actually far from it.  In fact, I’m just a struggling writer/author who happened to write a book about an young naive American suburban girl thrust into the world of prostitution by the people she trusted.  That’s it.  Nothing more.  Happily ever after, right?. . .Far from it!

For those of you reading this post, I am referring to my self-published novel “HUSH” which was released back in April of 2013.

The Good News about HUSH is:

it’s currently (not permanently) #1 on Amazon’s UK Best Sellers – 2 months running, I believe?.  #1 on Amazon – on and off for the last month.  #2 on Amazon CA, and #2 on Amazon AU, and has garnished almost 200 reviews.

The Bad News about HUSH is:

It’s been receiving it’s share of 1 & 2 Star reviews.

So far HUSH has been branded as:

Rubbish

a Piece of Crap

A Guide to Pedophile Porn

A Book about Porn

A Book Written by a Pedophile

Awful

UnTruthful

UnBelievable

Irritating

And that HUSH is:

Full of Grammatical Errors

Writing Style is Awful

Words Don’t Exist in Dictionaries

Repetitive

Needs Serious Editing

Reads more like Fiction than Non-Fiction

HUSH obviously Written by a Teen

HUSH poorly written

Now for the reader(s) reading this post, all this negativity is enough to make any Indie author cringe, right?  Of course.  And believe me, I’ve done my share of the “15 second weep”.  But in a nutshell, I really don’t mind the negative reviews because it just lets me know where my book is, and where it stands.

As a self-publisher I really can’t afford a $2000-$3000 Editor.  And even if I did consider hiring a professional editor, my book will still suffer its share of spelling and grammatical errors as there is no absolute guarantee that the editor will make my book read 100% flawless.  And as an avid reader myself, believe me, I’ve read many Best Sellers with their share of editorial mistakes.  But I do try not to emphasize so much on the editor’s mistakes as I tend to emphasize more on the story telling of the book.  Something I wished all Readers would emphasize on particularly with HUSH.

I will be the first to admit that when I first released HUSH, I really didn’t give much thought to how the book was presented both in style and grammar as I was just excited and overly anxious to get my book out there in the public mainstream.  I didn’t realize that my “over anxiousness” would suffer HUSH’s consequences of grammar and spelling complaints.  So in that I’ve learned a huge lesson. . .And so I say this to you, Indie author:  Do Not Publish Your Novel “AS IS”.  Take the time to read, and re-read and make all the necessary corrections prior to publishing no matter how anxious you are to get it published.

Now as with any and all books, Readers will either love your book or hate your book.  And with this stated, there is no gray area here, and the same gray area also applies to HUSH.  Because HUSH is such a touchy subject because it deals strictly with child/teen prostitution and sex-trafficking, and not everyone will like it.  But for the ones that do, it will make reading HUSH all the more worthwhile.

“HUSH” is in Amazon’s Top 100 Paid

Since Hush’s debut in April of this year, and despite the lack in Star Ratings & Reviews, HUSH has been listed in Amazon’s Top 100 Paid in Kindle store.  Despite the fact that I view Hush more as a “curiousity factor” rather than an “interest” on readers’ behalf, I honestly do not mind.  As long as Hush sells and people are reading it, that is good enough for me.  Not bad for an Indie author in a sea of 3+ million authors!

Here is HUSH’s new cover

Well faithfull readers (and God I’m hoping that atleast somone was reading this story since its onset and not just hitting the “like” button?) of “Hush” the book is now (drum roll please) available in its entirety, both in paperback and in digital print.  Yay (‘.’)/!  I just got my print copy today and it’s detestable considering that it’s “self-published” and not traditionally published which I am REALLY aiming for some day, fingers crossed!  I have a few more novels in the making (well not in the making “making” ’cause they’ve already been penned) but actually in the early stages of transcending into self-published novels as well.  So in closing, and while I would really love to end this post with “Buy My Book, Please!” I won’t ’cause that would only be groveling.  So I will just end this post with, “Hush is now available in Kindle and book form if you want to buy it.”  There!
